Our story
Behind “ La Fleur et le Soleil” lies a true family story
1911
Built in 1911 by a local farmer, the house has lived through more than a century of history. A few years after it was built, it was reportedly ravaged by a fire whose circumstances remain a mystery to this day. Later sold to a Flemish family as a second home, it was waiting for its new life.
A dream, a building site
2017
In 2017, Ester and Frans fell for the charm of this house… and for the immense challenge it represented. Substandard electrics, no central heating, less than 30 % of it habitable. But their vision was clear: to turn the main building into a warm guest house, and the barn into a bright living space. After more than a year of work, the house was reborn, unrecognisable, ready to welcome its first guests.
La Fleur et le Soleil
The name, by the way, was not left to chance!
The F in « Fleur » refers to the F in Frans, while the S in « Soleil » refers to the S in Ester. And so the F&S guest house was born.
Eight years of love
8 Years
For almost eight years, they poured all their love into this house so that those coming to stay could feel at home.
Frans, who can’t spend a weekend without a new project, sought every day to improve the place and, through it, the guests’ experience.
Ester, for her part, handled everything Frans hated: the paperwork and the accounting. Behind-the-scenes work without which nothing would be possible. One thing is certain: their complementarity gave birth to everything we know today.
A story that continues, as a family
2026
In early 2026, Bob and I decided to take up the torch. The house had been for sale for a few months, following the announcement of Frans’s illness. After long discussions, we told them of our wish to carry on their legacy.
A decision full of emotion: the house stays in the family. And here we are today, welcoming you in turn, together with our two wonderful children, Kaitlyn and Achille.
A tribute to Frans
Our symbol
We chose to keep the existing name as a tribute to Frans, who passed away in April 2026. The founding pillar of the house, he will remain present in his own way. In every room, you’ll find a beret hanging on a coat rack: his favourite accessory, which he almost never took off. A discreet symbol of his constant dedication to the place you discover today.
